IT'S EASY AS 1-2-3!

Selkie™ RESCUE is easy, fast, and safe to use to rescue your files from your Failed Computer.

To use Selkie™ RESCUE you need the Failed Computer to be connected (networked) to another computer, which Selkie™ RESCUE calls the Rescue Computer. If it is not, see how to set up a network. Your Failed Computer must be using Windows or an Intel operating system, and the hard drive must be working. If you are not sure if your hard drive is working, see how to check if my hard drive is working. Most computers will start or ‘boot up’ from the CD drive, which is where you will put your Selkie™ RESCUE CD. If your computer does not start or ‘boot up’ from the CD drive, it may start or ‘boot up’ from the floppy disk drive. To start Selkie™ RESCUE from a floppy disk, see how to boot from the floppy disk.

Most computers with failed operating systems will have working hard drives, will start up from their CD drive, and will be easily networked/connected to another computer.

Step 1

While your Failed Computer is on, put Selkie™ RESCUE in the CD drive, then turn your computer off. Turn it on with Selkie™ RESCUE in the CD drive. Selkie™ RESCUE begins with a splash that immediately loads the welcome screen. Press Enter to access the screen that allows you to choose your network set up, and unless you have a custom computer, just select ‘Basic’ and press Enter again. If you have an advanced system and you selected basic by mistake, Selkie™ RESCUE will take you back so you can select ‘Advanced’. If you’re not sure what to do with your Advanced system, see Advanced Systems.

Step 2

At this step, the Selkie™ RESCUE program has renamed your Failed Computer “Selkie™ RESCUE”. All you have to do now is choose a Workgroup** from the list that Selkie™ RESCUE has put on screen – and that will be where your data files are transferred instantly. If you are not part of a network, Selkie™ RESCUE will identify a workgroup for you.

Step 3

Leave your Failed Computer on. Your files are now available on any computer in the Workgroup you selected. Go to a connected computer and you will find a file called “Selkie™ RESCUE” in its network. If you have Windows 95/98/ME it will be in your Network Neighbourhood, if you have Windows XP it will be in your Network Places. If you have another system, look in its network section.

It’s just that easy – three simple steps to instantly recover your data.

If you have questions or want more information, please see the User’s Manual. It has explanations and some colorful pictures.

**A Workgroup is just a bunch of computers that are connected, some of them are names, some aren’t. It doesn’t matter, Selkie™ RESCUE will sort it out automatically. If you’re confused, go to the User’s Manual.
